Singh and Phillips Victorious at UK & Cherry Blossom
University Club of Kentucky - Big Blue and Cherry Blossom Golf & CC hosted our double header weekend with 167 golfers competing across five age divisions! At UK - Big Blue, the Girls 15-19 division needed extra holes to decide the champion after Athena Singh and Evangelina Brown were tied at the top of the leaderboard after 36 holes of competition. Both girls rolled in their birdie putts on the first playoff hole, par 4 Hole #1. They would head to the par 4, 2nd Hole, where Athena Singh would earn her 10th GWJT win with a par on the hole! Athena (72-71) and Evangelina (69-74) finished the event at 143 (-1) and led the rest of the field by three strokes. Emma Lindemoen rounded out our podium finishers at 146 (+2), after rounds of 72-74.
Cameron Phillips earned his 9th career GWJT win at Cherry Blossom in the Boys 16-19 and overall Boys 14-19 divisions! He carded rounds of 69-68 -- 137 to finish the event at 7-under par and earn 6-stroke victory. Cameron led the field in bogey avoidance with only 2 over the 36 holes of competition. Mattingly Upchurch propelled up the leaderboard after a 3-under par final round, 69, to finish runner up at 143 (-1). He also led the field in birdies connecting on 10 over the 2 days of play! Cameron Herring finished in 3rd place after rounds of 74-71 -- 145 (+1).
The Girls 14 & Under division was a tight race to the finish as Alexi Omillian took home the title by 1 stroke over Anna Phillips. Anna Phillips led the way through the first day after a stellar round of 1-under par 71. Alexi was able to close the 9-stroke deficit with a final round 72 (E) to take home the trophy at 152 (+8). Anna finished runner up at 153 (+9) and led the field in birdies with four! Olivia Patton rounded out our podium finishers after carding 81-76 -- 157 (+13).
Finn Johnson earned his first GWJT win after a final round 69 (-3) brought him to the top of the leaderboard after being 5-strokes back after the opening round. Finn carded 4 birdies over a 6-hole stretch, including 3 in a row on holes 7-9! He would finish the event at 146 (+2) to take home the title by 2 strokes! Zac McGrath and Parker Geldhof finished in a tie for second place at 148 (+4). Cade Wilson and Blake Rohling rounded out our top 5 at 150 (+6) and 151 (+7), respectively.
Hayden Li took home the Boys 13 & Under division title in commanding fashion after rounds of 70-72 -- 142 (-2) earned him a 6-stroke victory! Hayden connected on 7 birdies over the two rounds, leading the field in par breakers. Logan Gowin finished runner up after rounds of 77-71 -- 148 (+4). Logan carded 3 birdies in a row on holes 13-15 coming down the stretch that propelled him into 2nd place! Greyson Cloern finished 3rd place after rounds of 75-74 -- 149 (+5).
