Herman wins 4-hole playoff

SUNBURY, Ohio – It took four playoff holes for Ben Herman to put away Preston Nanthavong in the Boys 16-19 division at North Star Golf Club.

Herman and Nanthavong both fired identical rounds of 75-71—146 to set up the playoff, which started on No.1 before going to the No.9. The two went back and forth with all pars until Herman birdied the par-4 ninth on the fourth try to earn the victory.

The two were part of a tight field that included eight player who finished within three shots of the lead. Herman’s birdie at the 17th helped him overcome a double bogey at 13 while Nanthavong finished strong with birdies at 16 and 17 to help force the playoff.

The final hole in regulation proved disaster for several players who were vying for a win or at least a spot in the playoff.

William McDavid finished bogey-double bogey to place alone in third just one shot back with scores of 72-75—147 while Dylan Stevens suffered a triple bogey at the last to wind up two shots off the lead.

Curran Gimeson carded a double bogey at the last hole to finish at 76-72—148 and finish in a tie for fourth with Stevens, Cameron Casto (76-72—148) and Justin Atkinson (76-72—148).

Coury Rogers claimed sole possession of eighth place with scores of 75-74—149.

Davis earns 2-shot victory in Girls 15-19

Kayla Davis

Kayla Davis fired rounds of 74-76—150 to beat Annika Manju by two shots in the Girls 15-19 division at North Star.

Davis carded three birdies in the opening round to build a 2-shot lead that she helped solidify with back-to-back birdies at 7 and 8 during the final round.

Manju was able to play a bogey-free closing nine in surging to sole possession of second place at 77-75—152.

Riley Dean played Sunday’s lowest final round in taking third place at 83-72—155 while Maria Howard shot 76-80—156 for fourth place.

Kary Hollenbaugh rounded out the top five with 77-80—157.

Gibson routs field in Boys 14-15

Zehnder Gibson

Zehnder Gibson shot 73-73—146 in cruising to a 9-shot victory in the Boys 14-15 division at North Star.

Gibson took a 1-shot lead over Aditya Reddy after the opening round then kept the field at bay by playing the first 14 holes of the second round in bogey-free 1-under-par. He was able to pull off the huge win despite a double bogey at the last hole.

Henry Gay shot 80-75—155 to finish alone in second place while Zach Burton (76-80—156) and Joseph Evans (80-76—156) finished tied for third.

Dye claims 11-shot win in Girls 14-and-Under

Hayley Dye fired rounds of 85-76—161 in winning a 3-way match in the Girls 14-and-under division at North Star.

Dye trailed Ellie McNutt by one shot after the first round, but when she birdied the ninth Sunday, she opened up a 5-shot lead herself at that point. She carded five straight pars at one point on the closing nine to keep the field at bay in winning by 11 shots.

McNutt finished with rounds of 84-88—192 while Ellie Lim completed the field at 86-88--174.

Rodgers rolls in Boys 13-and-Under division

Jake Rodgers shot 74-78—152 to win the Boys 13-and-under division at North Star by 10 shots.

Rodgers took a 4-shot lead in the first round after a bogey-double bogey start. He rebounded with birdies at 4 and 9 then closed with birdies at 16 and 18 to take his lead to Sunday.

Leading Leo Walling by four shots, Rodgers opened with a birdie on Sunday and extended his lead to eight shots by the turn to the inward nine.

Walling shot 78-84—162 to finish second while Jacob Ryan placed third with rounds of 81-83—164.
